for the record

3 weeks ago Kai was still waking up every 3 hours at night making his 7 month sleep deprived parents very unhappy.

Said parents decided that the no-cry, wait for him to learn approach was not working so decided to Ferberize which involves allowing a child to learn that they will not be picked up at night when they cry, so they give up crying and learn to go back to sleep even if they wake up.

Ferberizing data:
Night 1 = Kai woke up and cried for 1 hour then passed out.
Night 2 = Kai woke up and cried for 1/2 hour then passed out.
Night 3 = Kai slept through the night
Night 4 = Kai slept through the night
Night 5 = Kai slept through the night
Night 6 = Kai slept through the night....

..you get the point.

Oh and "slept through the night" means 7pm bed time, 5:30 wake to nurse, then back to bed until 7am.

Can I get an Amen!?!

Summary - For 2+ weeks now all involved are happy and well rested. Crying-it-out method is painful and makes parents want to throw themselves out the window. It feels wrong but is so, so right in the larger scheme of things. It works and therefore allows Kai to get a good nights sleep and also have fully functioning parents. Thank you Dr. Ferber. Thank you little Kai.

7 months is right around the time chris and i pretty much all but lost it and were willing to try anything to get a full night sleep. we had the same experience and will has been sleeping thru the night ever since. yeah! hopefully this will come naturally to baby #2 at 8 weeks!
